About Fireboards
- Fireboards were used in the 18th century. They
were generally made of hand-plained, clear, eastern wide board white
pine panels. They were to fit snugly into the fireplace opening to
stop the air flow to the fire, thus putting out the fire while retaining
the heat in the room. They were often decorated. Fireboards and screens
are beautiful ways to bring your fireplace to life when not in use.
Fireboards are positioned flush in the fireplace opening and screens
are hinged to imitate true fire screens.
